ActiveDock 2 overview

ActiveDock 2 is a customizable alternative to the standard macOS Dock, offering advanced features for app launching, window management, appearance customization, and more. It fully replaces the classic Apple Dock and Launchpad while preserving their familiar look and behavior, but adds a wide range of powerful enhancements.

With ActiveDock, you can group apps and documents, switch between windows and applications instantly, and manage windows directly from the window preview panel. The app supports deep customization: themes, icon sets, and flexible appearance settings let you create a Dock that perfectly matches your workflow and style.

ActiveDock helps you stay productive and organized: groups, folders, and a convenient Start Menu give you quick access to essential apps, files, and directories, saving time and reducing desktop clutter.

Additionally, ActiveDock offers extra features such as Dock placement on any side of the screen, hiding or excluding individual apps, and fully customizable window previews. It’s a powerful and user-friendly tool that enables you to work faster, more efficiently, and more comfortably than with the standard macOS Dock.

I have been in contact with dev since end of 2023 when I (regretfully) paid for Active Dock before encountering the problem. 7 mails over over 8 month with 3 responses. Very slow and ignorant answers that does nothing to solve a fundamental problem. In this state it a useless paid replacement for the Dock. For now uBar does the job well with some few glitches on Sonoma.

I'm very disappointed. The app is buggy and misses magnification. The developer's site gives 14 days no risk money back guarantee but in my case when I came in contact with him the same day I purchased his app he refused to give me a refund saying that the 14 days have passed. I have the email that proves his dishonesty.

Really love the features, but this is horribly broken under Big Sur. Trying to move the ActiveDock around using the preferences (left, middle, right, etc.) makes the icons disappear (they are replaced by black dots). Trying to use the fill option makes the ActiveDock stretch to where it will fill up a random amount of screen space. Sometimes it's half the screen, sometimes it's just a huge block that blocks a chunk of the screen. This isn't Big Sur ready, but on Catalina it works great.

This app is a good effort, but doesn't act like the native Macos dock at all, and many popular applications (like 1Password) don't work with it. The developer releases updates frequently, so hopefully it will quickly improve, but right now it's really unusable for me since it's incompatible with several applications I use frequently.

I like this app. It could use a few more features. For example, when right-clicking on an icon I'd like to see the option to do a Get Info on it. Maybe even an option to change the app/item icon in ActiveDock from whatever image is in your clipboard. Judging by how the new Catalina app icons look, this might be a feature used more than any other LOL. I was a long time user of DragThing, and some of the features in that app would be welcome here, as it is no longer being updated. Things like assigning sounds, colors, more appearances styles, hot corners. Most importantly for me, the option to "bring all app windows to the front when switching". This is something I really miss from OS9. I know there are a couple other apps that do it, but it's another app you have to have installed and running. It would be nice to have it rolled into ActiveDock.
